Welcome from the land of the undead car clutch.  I went through that wonderful slice of life to the dance tune of eight hundred bucks. Yeah that hurt!

I want to just say off the bat that when life throws you rough spots like that, you need to turn outward for help. I thank God for the love of friends and family for the help given to us.  To the friends who pitched in to take the sting out of it and to the friends who just pitched in for a ride to pick up the rental car. To the strangers who helped by donating money, prayers and best wishes. I want to thank all of you great wonderful dreamers that helped us in this time of need. I love you guys and you bring tears of joy to my eyes. I now know what mercy and love means in this world.

Ok I’m done with the fluffy happy stuff. On to the thoughts of a mad cap pirate comic book writer………

This week’s web comic spotlights Gearz. I wanted to show what other characters were doing during this time frame. Tobin was stealing a ship and Gearz was just finding who she was. I wanted to also showcase that some people thought of her as a weapon.  Make no mistake Gearz has a more checkered past than I’m showing for right now. AH…there I go getting ahead of myself.

Now last week I dished out my two cents about working with a paying editor who is being difficult. I gave some suggestions on how to handle them. Well my dear wife asked me to turn that on its ear. What happens when the editor is not paying you?

How do you handle something that is less rewarding?

When you find yourself up against the wall and facing a co-creator/partner that blocks or turns away all your ideas, what should you do?  The way I look at there are three things you ask yourself.

1)      How much do you believe in the idea and yourself? Simple question. Hard to answer. You need to have some faith in your ability to overcome any speed bumps thrown out.  Show your self-worth and show this guy that there are more tricks you can pull out your sleeves, tricks that can prove this project is on the fast-track of becoming big.

2)      Be open to new ideas. If this editor isn’t paying you that usually means it’s your property. It’s your baby. That doesn’t mean you should shut your mind off to new ideas. Remember the old saying “two heads are better than one.” You’re not obligated to implement their suggestions when it’s your property, but it is professional courtesy to consider it.

3)      Do you know when to let it go? Yeah no matter how many tricks you show off or how much talent you pour into this project, there is going to be a time when you need to leave it be and walk off. You’re not going to get where you’re going by beating a dead horse.
