This past weekend we launched a new game at the Sky Pirates of Valendor table. It’s called The Black Spot.
Based in pirate tradition, a black spot, or most notably an Ace of Spades was shown to a person condemned as traitor or informer. The Black Spot is also a fictional literary device invented by Robert Louis Stevenson for his novel Treasure Island. In the book, pirates are presented with a “black spot” to officially pronounce a verdict of guilt or judgment. It consists of a circular piece of paper or card, with one side blackened while the other side bears a message and placed in the hand of the accused.
In our game, the object is to avoid the black spot. After many black spots were issued, we did have several red spot winners who selected a prize. But then Saturday morning came and we had put a small number of white spots in the mug. A bearer of the white spot would win a selection of original artwork from Everett’s private collection. We are excited to report that we had a white spot winner! Jeromy Foberg won a piece of original artwork!
Check out the next edition of The Black Spot at our next convention – Queen City Kamikaze in Machester, NH on February 19th!
